A military life...
Milton Caniff was never a member of the armed services, but in the newspapers he was a 'lifer' in every sense of the term. He became a flying cadet in China with Terry Lee in 1943... reenlisting in the Air force with Steve Canyon during the Korean Conflict in 21951... and he remained there the next 37 years as an 'inside man'. Every day he kept readers posted in the comics pages of600 newspapers. He had one simple credo: 'No more Pearl Harbors!' Though in uniform, his people were like everyone else, and their concerns, in the end, were universal: love, honor, survival, unconditionally and uncynically, as these two 1956 episodes attest.
